Visitor Code of Conduct & Guest Behavior Policy
PURPOSE
DISCOVERY Children’s Museum is committed to providing a safe, welcoming, respectful, and inclusive environment for all visitors, employees, volunteers, and program participants.
This Visitor Code of Conduct establishes expectations for behavior while visiting or participating in Museum programs, events, and activities.
SCOPE
This policy applies to all individuals on Museum property or participating in Museum-sponsored programs, including:
- Visitors and guests
- Parents, guardians, and caregivers
- Program participants and families
- Members and volunteers
- Event attendees and partners
EXPECTED BEHAVIOR
Visitors are expected to:
- Treat employees, volunteers, and other guests with courtesy and respect.
- Follow all posted rules, safety instructions, and staff directions.
- Maintain appropriate boundaries and professional interactions with Museum staff and volunteers.
- Supervise children in their care at all times.
- Use Museum spaces and exhibits responsibly and safely.
- Communicate with staff in a respectful and appropriate manner.
PROHIBITED CONDUCT
The following behaviors are not permitted and may result in removal from the Museum or suspension of privileges:
1. Harassment or Intimidation
- Unwanted or inappropriate communication with staff, volunteers, or guests.
- Repeated attempts to obtain personal contact information from employees or volunteers.
- Verbal harassment, intimidation, threatening behavior, or unwanted personal attention.
2. Inappropriate Communication
- Sending personal, romantic, suggestive, or excessive communications to staff or volunteers.
- Contacting employees outside official Museum communication channels without a program-related reason.
3. Disruptive or Unsafe Behavior
- Behavior that interferes with Museum operations or programming.
- Aggressive, confrontational, or persistent conduct that causes discomfort or concern for others.
- Failure to comply with staff instructions or safety guidelines.
4. Misuse of Facilities
- Damage to exhibits or property.
- Conduct that compromises the safety or enjoyment of other visitors.
STAFF INTERACTION BOUNDARIES
Museum employees and volunteers maintain professional roles while working with children and families. Visitors must respect professional boundaries and may not seek personal relationships, private meetings, or personal contact information from staff.
All program communication should occur through official Museum channels.
ENFORCEMENT
DISCOVERY Children’s Museum reserves the right to take appropriate action when this policy is violated, including but not limited to:
- Verbal warning
- Removal from Museum premises
- Suspension or termination of program participation or membership
- Temporary or permanent prohibition from Museum property or programs
Decisions regarding enforcement are made at the sole discretion of Museum leadership to ensure safety and well-being.
FAILURE TO COMPLY
Individuals who refuse to comply with staff direction or leave the premises when requested may be subject to additional action, including involvement of law enforcement if necessary.
REPORTING CONCERNS
Visitors who experience or witness behavior inconsistent with this policy are encouraged to notify a Museum staff member immediately or contact:
POLICY ACKNOWLEDGMENT
Entry to DISCOVERY Children’s Museum or participation in its programs constitutes agreement to follow this Visitor Code of Conduct.
